Even with a lot of followers. Followers don't pay you. A profile that turns a viewer into an action does.
I said this on a panel and the room went quiet, so here it is in writing. Most people who don't make money online don't have an audience problem. They never put themselves in a position to get paid.
Two creators, same followers
Creator A has a profile that says who she is and what she does. There's an email button that basically says "contact me here". There's a media kit that shows her previous work.
Creator B just posts videos. No description. Nothing. Not even a link in bio.
Same follower count. A brand looking for someone to pay can only work with one of them, and it isn't B.
Almost nobody opens your profile
We scroll. Me included. The chance that someone opens the profile of the person who posted the video is low. The chance they then tap the link is even lower.
That's exactly why the few who do get there matter so much. If your profile and your link don't tell them what to do next, the one person who was curious enough to come looking leaves with nothing.
Views are attention. A funnel is what turns attention into money.
The funnel I'd build
If I was a creator and I wanted to make money, this is the practical version:
| Step | What has to be there |
|---|---|
| Viewer | A video that makes them curious about you, not just the video |
| Profile | Who you are, what you do, what you're about. In one look |
| Link in bio | One page with the actions you want: media kit, book a collab, shop, email |
| Action | Something they can actually do: buy, book, subscribe, reply |
And measure every step. How many visited, how many clicked, where they came from. Otherwise you just never find out what's working.
Why your link deserves its own domain
I work on growth at Linkie, so I'm biased. But this is the part I'd fix first.
Your link in bio is the one page every interested person sees. Putting it on your own domain, like yourname.com or links.yourname.com, does a few things a borrowed address can't:
It looks like a business, not a free page. It's easy to say out loud in a video or on a stage. It stays yours if you ever switch tools, so every bio, card and old post keeps working. And nobody else's branding sits at the bottom of your page, sending your visitors somewhere else.
On Linkie you can connect a custom domain or subdomain, collect emails right on the page, and see unique visitors, clicks and bounce rate for every link. Pages carry no Linkie branding, and it's free to start.
Do this today
Open your own profile like a stranger would. Can you tell what you do in three seconds? Is there an email? Is there one link, and does it lead to an action? If any answer is no, that's your next post, not another video.
What I still can't tell you is how much a custom domain lifts clicks for you specifically. Run it for a month and compare. I'd like to know.
